Chap 1
It’s mid-April, and the cherry blossom is fluttering in the wind, like snow falling onto the school field. I walk onto the grass as usual and remembered that this is my last bit of school year here. After I graduated from middle school I will go somewhere else. I could still visit, but I’ve been scouted by a high school in the US, and will be living there. An overwhelming sadness filled me. Suddenly, a strong wind blew from behind, and the hair that is tucked behind my ears was blown forward. I turned around to leave and was tucking my hair once more behind my ears. As I turned, I noticed a boy with golden curly hair, fluttering in the wind, and shining in the sunlight, staring at me. He was wearing a pair of half-frame glasses, and a school’s ideal no-sleeve navy sweater. He was carrying binders which I assume to be for his next class. His eyes were blue like the ocean, wide.
“H-hey, are you okay?”
That is when I noticed the tears in my eyes, I quickly wiped them away with my long-sleeve sweater.
“Yes, sorry.”
I looked at him once more, he carried a soft expression, with relief.
And then I realized how handsome he is, he is in the same grade as me, if I remembered clearly his name was...Elliot Brooklyn.
There was an awkward silence between us, then I decided to end this conversation.
“Well, sorry, Elliot. I have to go get my books I need for my next period. So...see you around.”
I turned to go. That's when he grabbed my sweater by the sleeve.
I turned around, looked at him in surprise, and said, “what's wrong?”
“Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to do that…” He said as if his body has a mind of their own.
“Ok then, I'm going,” I said with a confused smile.
“Y-yeah,”he said. Wearing an embarrassed expression on his perfect face.
The bell rang, and I strolled back to my locker, puzzled by his expression.
The class after lunch was strings, then I remembered Elliot was in strings too. I sighed and walked over to the strings room. Except there was no one there, not even Bryan or Thomas, who are prodigies at playing the violin, and is clearly in love with music. There was only Elliot, and ms.smith.
“Today, the rest of your friends are going to camp in Camp Thunderbird, and since you two didn't sign up for it, we are doing theory today.” Ms smith announced
Right, I just remembered that there was a field trip about camping, and I just don’t like camping, so…
It's probably the same with Elliot. I looked over to him, and saw him already doing his theory work, with his blond hair over his eyes and glasses, he looked like the ideal hardworking-typed student to me. I heard that he gets all A+'s on his report cards.
He looked like a manga character to me, like the ones I always saw on anime, perfect, hardworking, and soft. He seemed like a popular guy. A hard working, soft, and sometimes a cool expressions student. But other times a natural airhead. He’s just like my brother! I giggled, Elliot looked towards me. I realized that I giggled out loud, and put my hand over my mouth. He smiled, it was a heart-warming and very friendly smile. I was stunned by the beauty but smiled back. Then I realized I haven't started my theory book yet. Elliot seemed to notice too, he walked over to me, and started, “hey, need help with that? I think it's pretty hard.”
I skimmed it, it was hard! All those music notes, they're so complex. Plus, I didn’t really like theory work.
Elliot leans towards me from where he stood, which is behind my seat. First, I didn't fully take notice, but then, his right arm from behind went to point at the music notes on the book. That's when I felt that my head is slightly touching his sweater, which is dangling a bit from leaning towards to my desk.
“So, as you can see, this note…” His voice trailed off, I was now fully concentrated on how he is positioned, and in such way, I could blush.
“Get it now?” He said, I sprang back to reality, and nodded quickly.
He had a puzzled look on his face, I guess it is because of our first official meeting under the cherry blossom tree, the way I acted is way cooler than the way I am acting now.
That's when the bell rang, strings class seemed way shorter for me now, I wondered if the bell rung in the wrong timing.
“So, where are you going for next class, Evelyn?” Elliot burst out.
“Oh, I have art, then I've got badminton practice after school,” I answered swiftly.
“ I've got math, and I was thinking about doing badminton too! But because I've already participated in track, squash, volleyball, and um...the skating club.” I sensed an excitement from Elliot’s tone.
“Wow, that’s a lot of practices. And they have listed the most beautiful sports too! How are you able to manage all those?” I was fairly surprised. How is a straight A student able to manage study and sports, arts, all at once?
“I like beautiful things! And well… ”
The bell rang before Elliot could finish his sentence, “well seems like we have to go to the next period!”
I feel a slight disappointment there, I didn’t know why after I heard that he likes beautiful things…
